I love to dream. Escapades, Fantasies, Encounters… Desires.

I love to dream. Wandering, Exploring, Experimenting…..Fears.

I dream often as all of us do and yet I wonder what it all means. At times when I wake I find myself wanting to go back to the place of which I left.

This dream.

Have you ever found yourself interrupted from a dream, awaken by something and wanting so badly to return to that dream.. that moment? To absorb it.. to live in it?

I often have.

The other night, I had a strange dream. This dream, for some reason for the most part was difficult to remember and now even harder to explain. But it had such an impact on me that when I woke, I felt as though I was still living in the moment.

The Moment.

A ring of fire, I am given the choice between a lover and a friend. So strange as the lover and the friend seem as though they are the same person, even though they were not. As the dream goes on, the two people become dimensions of people I have met before, both people who are living and those who have passed on.

Choose one.

And, as I stand there trying to figure out how I could possibly choose one and why I have to choose one, I realize that the person who is asking me to choose.. is actually me.

Awaken yet wanting to go back.

I love to dream, at times it terrifies me, yet somewhere in my mind I know it is just a dream.

I love to dream. Trying to figure out what it all means…

Consummate Courtesan Airports and Airlines….

Having traveled on so many different airlines and through so many airports , I am always curious as to which airlines and airports are being recognized as the ‘best’ each year.

Lately, a large majority of my travel has been through Europe, however, last year I spent a great deal of time traveling through Asia. And in doing so, ended up traveling on some of the highest
rated airlines, as well as, either waiting for a flight or transferring from one flight to another through some of the highest rated airports.

When I was in Hong Kong last, Skytrax, the world airline star rating program, had come out with their top ten list of the best airlines in the world for 2008. These ratings, done annually, are based on questionnaires compiled into 40 different categories ranging from quality of check-in and staff efficiency to shopping and dining options. The questionnaires are completed by passengers across the world over a ten month survey period. Having paid attention to their ratings since they started, I knew that both Singapore and Cathay would come out, at the very least, in the top three. So, when results were in, it was no surprise, that once again, Singapore Airlines was rated number one, with Cathay Pacific and Quantas coming in second and third. (If you have ever flown Singapore airlines, you will understand why they come out on top). On a side note, I found it interesting that Etihad Airways, an Abu Dhabi based airline had made it onto their top ten list as well, despite having only been in existence for five years.

At the same time, Skytrax comes out with their highest rated airport list. Hearing (or I should say reading) that Hong Kong’s International Airport, Chep Lok Kok and Singapore’s Changi had come in first and second, once again, made me smile. Hong Kong’s airport has won this title for the 7th time in ten years and Singapore’s new terminal three is simply amazing. Both of these airports are known for taking customer service to a new level, offering a comprehensive range of facilities and services to travelers entering and leaving.

Given these days of flight delays and cancellations, long security line-ups and less than pleasant customer service, it is nice to see there are some airports and airlines trying to make the travel experience as enjoyable as possible.

Today I will take the time. I will savor each moment as though I may never experience it again.

Today I will take the time to give thanks, pay forward and try to set an example as I may never again have this chance.

Today I will do something I have never done before, something I have always feared as I may never again have this chance.

Today I will call you just to say hello because for some reason there seems to be too little time in the day for the simple things.

Today I will fall in love, in love with the person that I am and the person of whom I hope to become.

Today, I will look to my inner weaknesses as strengths knowing that whatever is inside me should really make me stronger.

Today I will once again be passionate, driven, hedonistic, sensual, curious, mysterious and more because I am who I am.

Today I will offer myself as a confident, a friend, a lover, a mistress, a companion and more, loving what I do, seeing the happiness in another and knowing that giving means so much more than receiving.

Consummate Courtesan and The Alchemist

Seems the Consummate Courtesan has been doing a lot of reading lately. Perhaps it is the cold winter nights that have been keeping me in. The comfort of a warm bubble bath and a great book is too difficult to resist. Like many people, I often have a few books on the go at one time. Some I’ve read before, some are new. Either way, I find reading to be a fantastic escape.

One of the books I am reading is the Alchemist written by Brazilian author, Paulo Coelho. It is a magical and inspirational book of which I have read a few times before, however, each time I read it, I learn something new. If you haven’t read it, I suggest you pick this one up as I believe everyone can relate to it.

Coelho’s story and message of the Alchemist is revealed through the eyes of his main character, Santiago, a boy who has a dream and the courage to follow it, by traveling to Egypt to find his treasure. His story reminds one that the possibility of having a dream come true is what makes life interesting. So very true. He also tackles obstacles and fears and how we must learn to trust in the soul of the universe to get us through whatever fears we encounter when following our dream.

Paulo Coelho once said that alchemy about pursuing our spiritual quest in the physical world as it was given to us.

The Alchemist is a beautiful and extraordinarily optimistic tale filled with incredible words of wisdom for this crazy journey we call life.

Thoughts and Sympathies

I am deeply sadden to hear the news of this tragic accident. My thoughts and sympathies are with the families and friends of the passengers and crew of Continental flight 3407, as well as those who were affected on the ground.

World Graffiti

Recently, The Consummate Courtesan stumbled upon a great book and website called “Written on the City”.

It is a huge photographic collection of people’s graffiti messages written on walls in various cities worldwide. Messages stenciled on walls and sidewalks have always stirred my curiosity. Some of them funny, some beautiful, lots of them upsetting, crazy, and brilliant at the same time but all of them important.

“All over the world, people are staying up late, venturing into the night, and breaking the law to say this thing to you. You don’t know them and they don’t know you. And it doesn’t matter. They just want to be heard..”

Written on the City connects people not just in the city in they live but in the world in which they live. From clever wordplay to heartfelt personal declarations, the book makes it very easy for one to lose themselves within their extensive-archives.

Some of my personal favorites: “ Once You’ve Been Enlightened You’ll Realize You’ve Been Enlightened All Along”, written on a wall in Marin City, California, “ Please Listen To The Universe Sing”, written Amsterdam and “You Remind Me of Home” written or I should say pasted on a what appears to be an old post box, San Francisco.

Some interesting facts:

The estimated cost of painting out all of the graffiti in San Francisco would cost $10,000,000.

Number of books in the Library of Congress with “graffiti” in the title is 165.

The most prized brand of spray paint (if you are thinking of taking this up as a hobby or I should say.. another hobby is called Montana, made in Spain.

In Milan, 40% of the buildings have at least on piece of graffiti.

Bringing Some Laughter and Some Perspective

I took my dad to the mall the other day to buy some new shoes
(he is 92). We decided to grab a bite at the food court.

I noticed he was watching a teenager sitting next to him.
The teenager had spiked hair in all different colors: green, red,
orange, and blue. My dad kept staring at him. The teenager would
look and find dad staring at him every time.

When the teenager had had enough, he sarcastically asked, ‘What’s
the matter old man, never done anything wild in your life?’

Knowing my Dad, I quickly swallowed my food so that I would not
choke on his response, knowing he would have a good one, and in classic
style he did not bat an eye in his response.

Got drunk once, and had sex with a peacock. I was just wondering if you
were my son!

The Consummate Courtesan and Cirque

The Consummate Courtesan is a lover of the performance arts.

Having had a background in dance (I studied ballet from the age of 9), I have a great interest in theatrical performances, dance groups and of course the ballet. I am a big fan of Cirque du Soleil. I’ve seen and loved numerous shows in cities worldwide and they never seem to fail at putting together a well crafted, mystical and ingenious production. Cirque does an incredible job of combining exoticism, world music, and exquisite artistry in the form of dance and acrobatics

The company’s 20th production, Kooza is one of my preferred shows and highly recommended . Kooza influence comes from India, inspired by the name koza which apparently is Sanskrit for treasure or chest. It tells the story of an innocent boy searching for his place in this world. It relies on its story telling clowns and breathtaking choreography to drive the show.

It is a gorgeous show evoking a unique mixture of joy, fear, and inspiration scene after delectable scene. The acrobatics are incredible, a real testament of how one can triumph over the laws of physics and the limitations of human anatomy.

As with every Cirque production, I enjoy being sucked into their imaginary world.

True Gentlemen

When I say I love a true Gentleman, I love everything about him; his intelligence, drive, education, his ability to converse on diverse subject matters. I came across an essay written by a Chesterfield scholar defining the term of a True Gentleman.

‘A true gentleman is virtuous in all aspects of the word, a king among kings with no power, save that which influences the heart, mind, and soul. A gentleman should be honest, without reservation, but at the same time without cruelty or malice in that which he says in truth. A gentleman has a love of propriety, but does not flaunt his decorum, humbling himself before his own accomplishments and his own failures, telling honestly of what he cannot accomplish himself. He is modest and unswerving in his heart’s path to that which is right, yet has an aura of confidence in all he is and does.’

How true.

I find that gentlemen of these sorts look towards me as a confidant, a muse and an intellectual peer, however, I also provide mystery… the Eros …the mystique. It is beautiful work.
